SURFSHARK VPN SERVICE REVIEW

Surfshark is a relatively new name in the market and has just appeared in 2018. However, after only a short time of operation, they have established an impressive server network. Best of all, their service is now at a great price compared to the leading companies in the market.

ADVANTAGES WE LIKE AT Surfshark

SAFE & SECURE CONNECTIONS

Like most of the leading VPN service providers in the industry, Surfshark also wants to improve user privacy and security. This is done through the usual dedicated service – a secure, encrypted tunnel that allows users to hide their access information from prying eyes.

Great protocol selection
To do this, Surfshark leverages a few key protocols like IKEv2 and OpenVPN that have been tried and tested. By unwritten law, OpenVPN is widely accepted as the standard for security and high speed. IKEv2 is also quite good and works well with mobile networks.
Supporting the above two, Surfshark also offers Shadowsocks, commonly known as an encryption proxy. The main reason is probably that Shadowsocks works well in China, a market that is less interested in VPNs because Beijing bans the use of this service.
There is some user information that Surfshark is only available to users in China, but unfortunately I cannot verify this at the moment.
Good encryption
In addition to securely connecting to VPN servers, Surfshark also encrypts very well the data transmitted through the VPN tunnel. Some providers allow users to adjust the encryption rate for better performance, while Surfshark operates at full speed using the advanced AES-256 bit encryption standard.
This works in tandem with a kill switch system that you can use to automatically disconnect from the Internet if there are any VPN connection failures.
No logs
Internet activity is often tracked by keeping logs in the servers you connect to. Information collected typically includes IP addresses, browsing history, network access history, and more. In short, it's user-identifying and tracking information.
Surfshark is dedicated to providing a no-logs service, meaning your Internet activity is anonymous. I've tested the service's DNS leaks and WebRTC leaks, both of which are negative, i.e. no leaks.

MULTI-STEP CONNECTION AVAILABLE

Surfshark currently offers several so-called “multi-hop” connections. This means that users connected to the Surfshark network have the option to route consecutively through two VPN servers. This increases the element of anonymity giving users more peace of mind.

In addition, the basic network covers more than 61 countries around the world with a network of more than 1,000 servers. That's pretty good for such a potential service provider.

AVAILABLE ON MULTIPLE PLANTS

Like most other good service providers, Surfshark has brought their service to several platforms so you can use the VPN on almost any device on the market. Their basic apps are available on popular platforms like Windows and iOS.
Alternatively, you can install a VPN on your gaming device or smart devices like smart TVs.
If users are not too concerned about a fast or slow connection, they can use Surfshark on the router (see how to install Surfshark on the router here).
However, please note that VPN services installed on the router may have much slower speeds due to encryption. It needs processing power to encrypt, which most routers have low processing power, thus creating a slower connection.

GOOD SPEED

As usual, I tested Surfshark's speed in several key locations around the world. Just for background, my physical location is in Malaysia and hence PINGs (latency units) will be higher depending on the physical distance between me and the VPN server.
Usually, due to different levels of popularity, a VPN will perform well in certain countries and worse in others. The first thing to note here is that in most of the locations tested, while Surfshark's speeds weren't among the fastest I've seen, they were able to maintain consistent speeds.

SERVER REASONABLE DISTRIBUTION GLOBAL

Most of their servers are real physical servers, with some virtual locations. VPN providers use virtual locations in countries they don't actually service, but can help you fake your location as if you were in that area.
The servers work fine and can handle all the protocols and features that Surfshark has to offer.
Besides, Surfshark also has a number of servers that provide users with a fixed IP address. Although the number is limited, the feature can be useful as most Internet service providers only provide dynamic IP addresses to regular users and will charge extra for fixed IP addresses.

GOOD TRANSFER GEOGRAPHY SELECTED CONTENT

I have tried many VPN services that claim to support streaming Netflix content, but this is only true for the top companies like ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and a few others, the rest have asynchronous connections. and I keep getting the dreaded 'PROXY DETECTED' message.
Thankfully, Surfshark never had any problems when I streamed. I've been using Surfshark while watching Netflix for the past three months and have so far had no problems watching Netflix or watching BBC on iPlayer.

PRICE

Surfshark offers affordable rates, with only $16.5 per month. Seriously, this price is better than other supplier. For a service with solid performance and good features like Surfshark, this is absolutely a bargain for you and I admit it is an attractive 'shopping' option.

EASY USER EXPERIENCE

My only claim to all VPN services is that they cause no trouble at all. I made this request because I don't want the hassle of connecting to a VPN, I want a seamless sign-up experience, easy access to the apps I need to download, easy to use apps, and fast support when need.
Of all the VPN services I've used, I consider Surfshark one of the top ten VPNs I've had the chance to try without saying a word; "This is weird." For me, that's the key factor that sets Surfshark apart from the competition.
We, as paying customers, don't want to have to figure out how to use the service we've spent all our money on. And Surfshark has built a very seamless customer experience model. From the step where you press the 'sign up' button to the step where you turn off the device after using the VPN, everything works great.
Overall, Surfshark is a solid VPN service that offers a wide range of features at an affordable price. Its multi-hop and Camouflage mode features provide extra layers of security and privacy, and its no-logs policy ensures that user privacy is protected.
